The International Parking and Mobility Institute (IPMI) recently changed the format of the Parksmart Advisor course to mimic the "flipped classroom" approach.
This method uses classroom time for what would traditionally be assigned as homework, and out-of-class time to read and prepare for the in-class scenarios and exercises. Learners who take this class receive productive feedback through the activities that occur during class time, helping to further reinforce understanding of content through discussions. This allows participants to immediately use what they learn in their places of work.
The class that beta-tested this new format in November 2018 had the highest overall average score on the end-of-course assessment, proving this new method of learning equips students with the skills and resources they need to succeed.
Attend a flipped classroom-style course in January and February:
When: January 29, January 31, February 5 and February 7
Cost: $325 for IPI and USGBC members; $425 for nonmembers
Find out what Parksmart Advisor training participants are saying about the new class format:
”I learned about the Parksmart program through a news article describing how a Toronto mall achieved Canada’s first Parksmart certification. I really wanted to learn more about how it could be implemented with the sustainability services we already provide to our clients. I had a great experience taking the Parksmart Advisor course. The new class format was very comprehensive, and unlike some other online courses I've taken before, it was very interactive. This allowed us to ask any questions openly and learn from both the instructor’s and other students’ experiences in a collaborative environment.” —LEED AP BD+C, Certified Sustainable Building Advisor, Parksmart Advisor
“The course was direct and to the point, which helped me to easily understand the goals and requirements needed for a facility to achieve Parksmart certification.” —Parksmart Advisor
Parksmart Advisor training is offered by IPMI in partnership with GBCI. Parksmart Advisors lead clients through the certification process by evaluating parking facilities’ sustainable attributes and preparing their applications for certification submission.
To become a Parksmart Advisor, participants must attend all four 1.5-hour classes and pass an assessment. Seats are limited and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis, so register early to confirm your seat.
