Parksmart is the world’s only rating system advancing sustainable mobility through smarter parking structure design and operation. A voluntary, consensus-driven certification, Parksmart recognizes parking structure developers, owners and operators who embrace innovative strategies that benefit the environment, improve bottom lines, and strengthen community relationships.
GBCI is the premier organization independently recognizing global excellence in green business industry performance and practice through the administration of project certifications, professional credentials and certificates. GBCI exclusively administers project certifications and professional credentials and certificates for LEED, EDGE, PEER, WELL, SITES, GRESB, Parksmart and Zero Waste.
Any new construction or existing multi-level structure that stores vehicles is eligible for Parksmart certification. This structure may be a stand-alone building or integrated into a mixed-use building (e.g. office building or shopping mall). Projects anywhere in the world may seek Parksmart certification.

The International Parking Institute (IPI), in partnership with GBCI, offers the Parksmart Advisor Training. Offered both online and face-to-face, the training equips professionals with the knowledge they need to lead projects through the Parksmart certification process. And those who take and pass the training are awarded with a professional certificate upon completion. Explore IPI's website for more information.

No, surface parking may not achieve Parksmart certification. However, ancillary surface parking may be included within the project boundary of a parking structure seeking Parksmart certification.
Any occupied spaces, within the parking structure, that are integral to garage operations, such as a parking office, must be included within the Parksmart project boundary.
Projects that achieve precertification will be recognized as earning precertification, representing a commitment to advancing sustainable mobility and green certification, and acknowledged for the work done in the pursuit of full certification.
